Top 5 Bowling Moments of 2016

There were plenty of big sports moments last year that included the Cavaliers bringing Cleveland its first title in 50 years and the Cubs breaking the curse and ending the 108-year World Series drought.

With 2016 in our rear view mirror, let’s look back at the top five bowling moments of the year:

5. CP3 PBA Celebrity Invitational
In February, Chris Paul hosted his annual bowling tournament benefiting the Chris Paul Family Foundation Several professional athletes including NFL star Terrell Owens, USWNT goaltender Hope Solo and Allyson Felix, the most decorated U.S. woman in Olympic track and field history, paired up with professional bowlers to take part in the event.

4. Vanderbilt’s Bowl Game Bowling Ball
After head football coach Derek Mason attended the NCAA Women’s Bowling Championship match that the Commodores were competing in, he had a custom Vanderbilt bowling ball made that the team carried around to symbolize making it to a bowl game in 2016.

3. PWBA Gains National Attention in Second Year Back
After being disbanded in 2003, the Professional Women’s Bowling Association made a comeback in 2015. The PWBA gained momentum in 2016 thanks in part to tour stars Kelly Kulick and Danielle McEwan coming into the national spotlight. The duo was featured in a USA Today story in July and they appeared on the national morning show “FOX & Friends” in August.

2. Legends on the Lanes at Super Bowl 50
GoBowling.com partnered with the NFL Foundation and the NFL Legends Community to host the Legends on the Lanes bowling tournament before Super Bowl 50. The event provided amateur bowlers the opportunity to bowl alongside NFL Legends including GoBowling.com spokesman, Ed “Too Tall” Jones, Warrick Dunn, Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson and others.

1. Go Bowling 400 NASCAR Race
In May, GoBowling.com partnered with Kansas Speedway for the track’s annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Series night race – the Go Bowling 400. Brian Scott drove the No. 44 Go Bowling car for Richard Petty Motorsports and Kansas City Royals’ legend and MLB Hall of Famer George Brett served as the Grand Marshal. Look for the 2017 Go Bowling 400 to return to Kansas on Mother’s Day weekend.
