TEXAS HIGH SCHOOLS AWARD TEAM AND SINGLES CHAMPIONS UNDER STRICT COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS

With 2020 being a difficult year due to Covid-19 the THSBC made some implementations for the safety and health concerns of the bowlers for the season.   It was anticipated these adjustments are a one-time event and while some may be inconvenient without them the event would not be conducted. Masks were required for all bowlers, coaches, spectators, volunteers, and staff.  Spectators were limited to one per bowler.  New this year, a wristband for every bowler, spectator and coach was mailed to the district coordinator. Temperature checks were taken at the door.  This would cut down on the amount of traffic at the front door to align with social distancing. Based on the occupancy levels we had to limit the number of teams and single entrants for the tournament.  The tournament was a great success, and we look forward to the 2021-22 season.

The Plano Senior Wildcats (coed team) 3rd seed won the boys state bowling championship by defeating the Randall Raiders Canyon 2nd seed Saturday at Bandera Bowl in San Antonio.   This year we had 28 boys’ teams and the top 10 teams advanced to a baker eliminator round.  The top ten seeds were Antonian Prep, Randall Raiders, Plano Senior (coed), Sachse (coed), Willis (coed), Georgetown, New Braunfels, Bridgeland, Warren, and Plano East.   The round of five teams after 3 games of bowling were Randall Raiders, Plano Senior (coed), Willis (coed) and Antonian Prep.   From the top five teams after 3 games bowling fielded the top two teams, Plano Senior (coed) and Randall Raiders, Canyon.  The finals (3 games were Plano 594 and Randall 571).

The Antonian Prep reigning champions from 2018 and the 5th seed won the girls state bowling championship by defeating Round Rock Dragons 1st Saturday at Bandera Bowl in San Antonio.  This year we had 20 girls’ teams and the top 10 teams advanced to a baker eliminator round.  The top ten seeds were Round Rock, Cy Ridge, Allen, Warren, Antonian Prep, Steele, Langham Creek, New Braunfels, J Frank Dobie, and Randall.
